One of the biggest feature of Domino Server 8.5 is DAOS i.e. Domino Attachment and Object Service. Its objective is to save the server disk space utilized by redundant attachment across users. So using DAOS the Domino Server now stores a single copy for each attachment.
DAOS is an optional feature for Domino server and can be enabled for the selected databases on the server. It maintains a single copy of each attachment in a central mapped repository. Once the feature is enabled then all databases which are part of the DAOS will stores the attachment in a central repository.
